Co-Founder, Managing Director
Preston Dillard serves 3Chopt Investment Partners as a Managing Director. In his role, he works closely on all aspects of the firm, including client relationships, investment management, and overall firm strategy.
Preston has 25+ years of investment industry experience, managing equities and fixed income and guiding clients on important financial matters. Before co-founding 3Chopt, Preston spent 17 years at Thompson Siegel & Walmsley LLC (TSW). As Head of Strategic Advisory, Preston led a team of specialists delivering investment management and advisory services for families and organizations totaling $2 billion in assets under management. Prior to joining TSW in 2005, Preston was a Portfolio Manager at Bank of America Private Bank managing large cap growth equities and multi-asset portfolios for a variety of client types. Previously, he was employed by a Richmond-based broker-dealer as an investment advisor.
Preston is active in the community as he serves on the Investment Committee for Union Presbyterian Seminary and the Finance Committee at FOCUS Richmond. Formerly, Preston served on the Country Club of Virginia Board of Directors, Advisory Board of the Massey Cancer Center, the Investment Committee for the Virginia Home, and the Board of Drive to Work. Other than spending time with his three children and lovely wife, Preston enjoys surfing, golf, squash, and any opportunity to be outdoors.
Preston is a graduate of the University of Virginia and holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designation. He is registered as an Investment Advisor Representative.
The Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation is a professional designation offered by the CAIA Association. CAIA designation is the globally-recognized credential for professionals managing, analyzing, distributing, or regulating alternative investments. Candidates must complete a course of study and pass two examinations. CAIA designees are required to maintain membership in the CAIA Association and adhere to professional and ethical standards.
